However, blogh is in Dinneen and it means piece, fragmemt (early Irish blog)
Gearóid
True. Personally, I have no problem accepting the use of "blogh" toGearóid
refer to writing/quoting a short piece of text.
Unfortunately, the official Modern Irish terms for the Modern English
words "blog" and "blogging" (referrign to internet usage) are "blag" and
"blagáil", which do not sit easily to many people raised in Ireland,
whose reaction on first hearing said terms is generally negative,
because "blagáil" conveys "blagging" as embedded slang from (very low
register) English words here (no idea whether they managed to make it
across the Atlantic, or even across the Irish Sea, or even whether they
arrived here on some incoming tide, as the defiinition of words under
the same spelling in the Oxford Dictionary of Slang does not sit easily
with usage here).
Cc:ing GAELIC-L, in case anyone there wants to air/share opinions on
this point as far as Modern Irish goes.
