My name is Gerard Cunningham, and I'm putting together a proposal for a
documentary on programming in Irish. The idea is to look at the language
localisation project for Ubuntu (a Linux distro), but I would also be
interested in speaking to anyone who uses Irish language versions of
other popular software, whether browsers, office suites or other.
In Ireland, many programmers work on Linux projects, either together or
in groups. And because Ubuntu is about community, one of it's strength
is localisation. Ubuntu has been fully translated into 29 languages, and
there are translation projects under way in more than 200. One group in
Ireland is dedicated to producing Ubuntu As Gaeilge.
If there is anyone here who uses such software, I'd appreciate if you
could get in touch. Ideally I'd like to talk to people in Ireland (I
have a limited travel budget) but would also be interested in talking to
people living / working abroad.
